Congratulations to the Central Region Team on Winning the Junior Development Series Finals. Congratulations also to all of the singles champions. We are very proud that six of the eight singles champions are Central Region players with five representing our team and Annie Donaldson(17/u Girls) playing for north-west region as a wildcard. The singles champions were: 11/u Boys Brendan Schultz (Central), 11/u Girls Hilary Tjandramulia(Central), 13/u Boys Kennedy Tjandramulia(Central, 13/u Girls Brittany Zipf(Central), 15/u Boys Mitchell Harper(Central), 15/u Girls Majella Nobile(North), 17/u Boys Cameron Becker-Jones(Gold Coast), 17/u Girls Annie Donaldson (North-West WC)

The CQ Junior Masters Circuit Finals were held in Biloela October 8th & 9th. The cream of Central Region was on show with great matches across all age groups. Most of the favourites won with the only major upset being Meg Tweed defeating both Dayle Mitchell and Annie Donaldson in the 17/u Girls singles. The event overall was a huge success and a big thank you goes to the CVTA Inc and Helan Ambrey, Helen Lovell and Tim Lovell who managed the Tournament desk during the event.

Mitch Harper won the Gareth Wroe Cup as the CQ Junior Masters Player of the year for the 2nd year in a row. Mitch had an outstanding year doing well at national and State level as well as remaining undefeated in the CQ Junior Masters Circuit in the 15/u Boys Section. Dayle Mitchell, Brittany Zipf, Annie Donaldson, Brendan Schultz and Patrick Harper also performed very well over the past 12 months and were awarded a player of the month award. The player of the years receives $500 and player of the month receive $100. The awards are vouchers to be used on Tennis Related activities over the next year.

CQ Junior Masters Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to 10 outstanding Juniors at the 2011 Finals. These players have been great role models for our younger players and have also supported the Junior Masters concept for many years. What an outstanding group of young people who will be sadly missed around the circuit but hopefully not lost to the great sport of Tennis. Well done to all 10 players your parents and coaches should be very proud of you. Good luck in the future and hopefully some of you will be our next Tennis Coaches or Tennis Administrators.

The Queensland Junior Teams Carnival will be held from the 10th to the 14th December 2011 (inclusive). It is most grueling yet most enjoyable event on the calendar, and is the largest team event in Queensland. Featuring 4 age groups(11/u, 13/u, 15/u & 17/u) with singles, doubles and mixed doubles in each age group, plus the separate JTC Optus Junior Tour singles event (carrying silver points for 11/U, 13/U and 15/U), the Queensland Junior Teams Carnival is the biggest and the best!! We are looking for 6 boys and 6 girls in 11/u, 13/u & 15/u age groups and 3 boys and 3 girls in the 17/u age group. Please send all nominations to khick@tennis.com.au.

The 2011 Bundaberg Age Championships will be held on September 21-22-23. This event is one of the premier age events in the State with over 200 players expected to compete. All entries are online but enquiries about the event can be directed to Murray Whitbread Ph 0741551508 – 0407639824.

The 2011 CQ Junior Masters final will now be played in Biloela on October 8/9. It was previously advertised for Rockhampton or Gladstone but the Central Region Assembly decided that with the newly upgraded courts at Biloela it was decided that the event be reschuled for Biloela in 2011. This event will be alternated between Rockhampton – Gladstone – Biloela as it was in the past.

The Head Qld State Age Championships will be conducted on September 17-20 at Rockhampton Regional Tennis Centre for Age Groups 14/u, 16/u & 18/u and the Yeppoon Tennis Centre 12/u & 10/u. This event attracts Gold Australian Ranking Points 12/u, 14/u & 16/u.

The events is played on the continuous play format with all players receiving singles play on all four days of the event. The final day Tuesday September 20th will have all matches being played at the Rockhampton Regional Tennis Centre followed by the presentation of Trophies.

A coaches meeting will once again be held on Monday from 2pm with all Tennis Australia Coach members welcome.

The 2011 CQ Junior Masters Circuit has got off to a great start with good numbers at all the tournaments played so far. The Rockhampton Junior Masters was delayed by the rain and will be played on the 16th and 17th of July. Send all entries for Rockhampton Junior masters to Pat Peach at peach@byterocky.net

The 2011 BMD Gladstone Open Hardcourt Championships Gold AMT Series was very successful after Saturday being washed out.

The floods has dominated the start to the 2011 season. The Central Region clubs of Theodore, Bundaberg Juniors and Tannum Sands has been worst effected. Tennis Qld/Tennis Aust will be doing all that is possible to help these clubs and many more in other parts of the state.

Also many of our members have been personally affected and out best wishes go out to those people. I urge all members of tennis who can help to pledge some support the premiers flood appeal.

The Junior Masters Dates are now on the web site and entry form will come out on the site very soon.

It has been a tough start to the season but I hope everyone is safe

The Queensland Junior Masters finals was a huge success with all teams performing well. North Qld players performed the best taking out the Ken Hick/Murray Whitbread Trophy by 1 point over the defending champions the Gold Coast. Sunshine Coast came 3rd and Central Qld 4th. All results are above. North Qld also secure the inaugural Xstrata Cup which was a contest between them and Central Qld. Well done to all the visiting teams which helped make it a great event.

The Rockhampton Regional Tennis Centre, Victoria Park was officially opened on Saturday October 23rd, 2010 by Qld Government Minister Robert Schwarten, Rockhampton Regional Councilor Cherie Rutherford and tennis Qld President Ken Laffey. It was a great event as well with many old Rockhampton Tennis stalwarts attending to see the centre go into another era.

Mitch Harper 13/u Boys and Annie Donaldson 15/u were Central Queensland's shining stars taking out their respective age group singles crowns. Our entire team players well but were not quite good enough overall to claim the trophies on offer.

The CQ Junior Masters Finals were held October 9/10 at Rockhampton. 75 Players took to the courts under grey skies but the tennis was 1st class. The Singles winner are pictured as are the player of the year and months. Mitch Harper received the top award as Player of the year and receives the the Gareth Wroe Memorial Cup and $500 towards tennis expenses. Heather Cassidy received the Bendigo Bank Sportsmanship Award of $200.

Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Ashleigh Pritchard, Heather Cassidy, Cole Fallon, Reuben Smith, Brandon Dines and Hayden Watson for services to the CQ Junior Masters Circuit. Well done and good luck with your tennis.

The Annual General Meeting of the Central Region was held in Rockhampton on September 11th. The 2010\11 committee was elected and they are Murray Whitbread (Chairperson), Pat Peach (Deputy Chairperson), Paul Bampton (Secretary & TQ Delegate), Glenn Vickery (Treasurer & TQ Delegate).

The Head Qld State Age was a major success with record entries. Jake Brown and Nikita Williams took out the 18/u boys and girls singles events respectively. Hillary Tjandramulia 10/u girls and Meg Tweed 16/u girls were runner-up in the there singles events. Many other CQ Junior made semi-finals and quarter finals. Unfortunately rain washed out the feed-ins and doubles events. A big thank you to our sponsors Head, Tropical Auto Group, Designing Screens, Sundowner Motel, Edge Apartments, CQ Enviromental, CQ Data Installations, Watt Bros Carpet One, Southside Holiday Village and a special mention to Goodsalls Computers Services as they also provided the new Tournament TV Program which was a major success. Also a big thank you to all the volunteers Pat & John Peach, Paul Bampton, Glenn Vickery, Roberta Joyner, Karen Lawson & Graham Hick who did a great job in the tournament areas. Also thank you to all the other helpers.

The Mal Anderson Exhibition Tour through Central Region was a huge success with the Tour commencing in Emerald with the two touring players Gavin Van Peperzeel and Andrew Donaldson meeting in the final of the Emerald ITN Event. Van Peperzeel proved too strong fro Donaldson. The tour continued with MLC Tennis in School, Junior Clinics and Exhibitions at Yeppoon, Tannum Sands, Biloela, Maryborough and Hervey Bay.

Maryborough conducted a very successful Junior Masters with 92 players taking the courts in the Category A event. Bruce Rayner and his team did a great job giving everyone plaenty of tennis over the two days of action.

Great news with Mitch Harper making the final of the 12/u Boys Singles at Winter Nationals in Brisbane in July. Mitch played some outstanding defeating top seed Brian Tran to reach the final in a cliffhanger. Unfortunately Mitch last the final to nemesis Oliver Anderson in straight sets. Mitch also reached the semi-finals of the doubles.

The Rod Laver Qld Junior Championships were held in Brisbane recently with many Central Region players contesting the event. Hillary Tjandramulia reached the finals of the 10/u Girls Singles & doubles. Mitch Harper finished 3rd in the 12/u Boys Singles and was a finalist in the boys doubles.

Mitch Harper, Ruth Beaumont and Brittany Zipf who are all members of the National Academy are currently contesting the Winter Nationals in Brisbane.

The RKF Engineering Central Region "Champion of Champions" was a huge success on June 5/6 with 7 clubs participating and almost 100 contestants. The two days of competition was very competitive with Rockhampton Tennis Association Inc coming out on top to claim the Bampton Family Shield. The clubs who competed were Rockhampton Tennis Association, Rockhampton Junior Tennis Assoc, Rockhampton Veterans, Tannum Sands Tennis Assoc, Emerald Tennis Association, Dawson Callide Veterans Assoc and Gladstone.
