Congratulation to Brittany Zipf on her selection in the Queensland Primary School Team for 2010. Both Kennedy Tjandramulia and Ruth Beaumont both performed well and just missed out on selection. Well done to all Central Region Junior who played in the Qld trials.

The CQ Junior Masters Circuit is hotting up as the circuit heads towards the finals. The next event is the B Category event at Gayndah August 28/29. To enter contact Judy Young Ph 0741616261 or email banbanorchard@bigpond.com

The Annual General Meeting of the Central Regional Assembly will now be held in Rockhampton on Saturday September 11th at 1.00pm. All position on the CRA will be declared vacant and nominations must be in writing to the Secretary Paul Bampton or Community Tennis Officer Ken Hick. The Positions are Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and 2 x Tennis Qld Regional Delegates.

The Mal Anderson Exhibition Tour through Central Region was a huge success with the Tour commencing in Emerald with the two touring players Gavin Van Peperzeel and Andrew Donaldson meeting in the final of the Emerald ITN Event. Van Peperzeel proved too strong fro Donaldson. The tour continued with MLC Tennis in School, Junior Clinics and Exhibitions at Yeppoon, Tannum Sands, Biloela, Maryborough and Hervey Bay.

Maryborough conducted a very successful Junior Masters with 92 players taking the courts in the Category A event. Bruce Rayner and his team did a great job giving everyone plaenty of tennis over the two days of action.

Great news with Mitch Harper making the final of the 12/u Boys Singles at Winter Nationals in Brisbane in July. Mitch played some outstanding defeating top seed Brian Tran to reach the final in a cliffhanger. Unfortunately Mitch last the final to nemesis Oliver Anderson in straight sets. Mitch also reached the semi-finals of the doubles.

The Rod Laver Qld Junior Championships were held in Brisbane recently with many Central Region players contesting the event. Hillary Tjandramulia reached the finals of the 10/u Girls Singles & doubles. Mitch Harper finished 3rd in the 12/u Boys Singles and was a finalist in the boys doubles.

Mitch Harper, Ruth Beaumont and Brittany Zipf who are all members of the National Academy are currently contesting the Winter Nationals in Brisbane.

The RKF Engineering Central Region "Champion of Champions" was a huge success on June 5/6 with 7 clubs participating and almost 100 contestants. The two days of competition was very competitive with Rockhampton Tennis Association Inc coming out on top to claim the Bampton Family Shield. The clubs who competed were Rockhampton Tennis Association, Rockhampton Junior Tennis Assoc, Rockhampton Veterans, Tannum Sands Tennis Assoc, Emerald Tennis Association, Dawson Callide Veterans Assoc and Gladstone.

All events were closely contested with several events having to go to a count back. The Emerald & District Lawn Tennis Association won the $1,000 worth of Brisbane International Tickets. A big thank you all clubs involved and the volunteers from Rocky Tennis who helped out during the event.

 

Olivia Tjandramulia  has had an outstanding start to the 2010 season with outstanding performances in Mildura, Melbourne, Perth and recently at Ipswich. Olivia has reached the semi-finals of the singles in these National events as well as winning 3 National Doubles titles. The culmination of all this is that Olivia has been selected to represent Australia in Europe in June/July 2010. As far as records show Olivia is the first Central Region to represent Australia on an overseas tour in recent history.

The Capricornia Primary School trials were held in Gladstone June 8/9. The boys singles was won by Kennedy Tjandramulia & the Girls by Brittany Zipf. Tristan Latcham & Ruth Beaumont also made the team. The State finals are at Miami in August.

The entry forms for the 2010 CQ Junior Masters Circuit are now available above. Be sure to read the rules as some changes have been made to the circuit with the introduction of some ranking band events called ITN B Category events. These events have been introduced to help provide quality matches at some of the smaller tournaments for all players. These events won't be conducted on ages or sex just players standards. This will ensure all players receive good matches. Players will have to play both singles and doubles events in the ITN B category events as players will be placed in pools of 6 or 8 players and doubles partners will be provided by Tournament Committee. Gradings will be done by CQ Seeding Committee. Trophies will be provided for all events.

The Central Qld Junior Masters Finals were held October 10/11 in Gladstone. The event was very successful and showcased the great talent in the region. Olivia Tjandramulia won the prestigious Gareth Wroe Memorial Cup as the 2009 CQ Junior Masters Player of the Year. The Player of the Month awards went to Mitchell Harper, Andrew Jones, Meg Tweed, Dayle Mitchell, Brittany Zipf and Ruth Beaumont.

Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Libby Tweed and Nikita Williams who have been great role models during their many years on the circuit.

The 2009 True Sport Lives Here Sportsmanship Awards went to Phoebe O'Brien 11/u Girls, Patrick Harper 11/u Boys, Heather Cassidy 17/u Girls & Andrew Jones 17/u Bys.

The Singles winners at CQ Junior Masters Finals were 10/u Boys Brendan Schultz, 10/u Girls Hillary Tjandramulia, 11/u Boys Kennedy Tjandramulia, 11/u Girls Brittany Zipf, 13/u Boys Mitchell Harper, 13/u Girls Olivia Tjandramulia, 15/u Boys Federico Keil, 15/u Girls Meg Tweed, 17/u Boys Sam Medlin, 17/u Girls Nikita Williams.

The Head Qld State Age supported by Tropical Auto Group  was a huge success. The continuous play draws is hopefully the start of great things for Qld Junior Tournaments. The success stories for Central Region were many with Cory Jacobs winning the 16/u Boys Singles & Doubles, Olivia Tjandramulia winning the 12/u Girls Singles. Nikita Williams win the 18/u Girls singles, doubles (with Libby Tweed) and mixed. Dayle Mitchell & Annie Donaldson won the 14/u girls doubles. Lucy Brown and Hillary Tjandramulia won the 10/u girls doubles.

The Central Regional Assembly held the Annual General Meeting at Gladstone August 22, 2009. The 2010 committee was elected with Murray Whitbread (Chairperson), Pat Peach (Deputy Chairperson), Paul Bampton (Secretary), Glenn Vickery (Treasurer) and Murray Whitbread & Glenn Vickery (TQ Delegates).
